What Will You Be Known For?

We all want to be known for something when we die. Some people want to be known for being a loving mother, a faithful friend, or a loyal spouse.

What do you want to be known for?

At the end of John 10, Jesus goes back across the Jordan to where John the Baptist had been baptizing at first. Many people come to him. They have heard John’s witness about Jesus in the past. They have heard about Jesus’ words and works, and many believe in him. And in the midst of this, they say,

“…John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.” (John 10:41b, ESV)

They’re saying, “John was right! This is the Son of God!” They remembered John the Baptist’s testimony, saw Christ’s words and works, and trusted in Him. The witness for Christ did his duty, he accurately proclaimed Jesus Christ.

What a legacy that we should strive for! We should strive to be people who others can say this about. What if we each thought this way: I want to be a man or woman of God. I want to be someone who knows Christ and who knows the Scriptures, and who accurately and truthfully proclaims the Christ of the Bible. I want to be someone, who at the end of my life, my gravestone could read, “Everything that he said about Jesus was true.”

May you know Christ more and share Him with others accurately, passionately, and truthfully. Because He is the One they need to know (and you need to know!). He is the answer to our sin problem. He is the answer to our death problem. He is the one who has accomplished redemption, who saves, and who gives life.

Yes, through God’s help, let’s be loving parents. Let’s be faithful friends. Let’s be loyal spouses. But most of all, let’s know Christ and make Him known.
